  1. What is the amount of tuition?
    Tuition and fees for the 2009–2010 school years are approximately $11,900. Tuition for school year 2010-2011 will be announced in March 2010.


  2. What about tuition assistance?
    We offer financial aid to all students that attend Ursuline. Last year we awarded over $350,000 in financial aid to 30% of our students. Applications are accepted through FAIR (Financial Aid Independent Review.)

  3. What about Scholarships?
    Unlike tuition assistance which is need based, scholarships are awarded based on specific criteria. All current 9th, 10th and 11th grade students have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship for the following year. The award criterion is varied: Scholarships


  4. What are the different ways for my family and I to visit Ursuline?
    We have planned a number of events that will allow you to find out more about Ursuline .


  5. How many students attend Ursuline?
    Nearly 300 girls attend Ursuline.


  6. What is the average class size?
    The average class size is 22 students.


  7. Are students that attend Ursuline all from Sonoma County?
    Students come from Lake, Mendocino and Napa counties in addition to a broad range of Sonoma County communities.


  8. Do you offer transportation arrangements?
    An Ursuline shuttle transports students from the Ukiah/Cloverdale area to and from school. We provide families with contact information to allow them to set up carpools.


  9. What makes Ursuline special?
    We offer personalized college counseling, 25 fully funded electives, 11 athletic programs and 17 teams (9th graders are never cut from teams!), 20+ visual and performing arts classes, a full time librarian, an average class size of 22 students, Activboards in all classrooms, and single gender math and science classes all four years. We also have a café on campus that offers delicious, freshly prepared food.


  10. Since Ursuline is girls-only, what is the social life like at Ursuline? How do students meet boys?
    All our students love going to an all girls school! Ursuline’s friendships last a lifetime, and our students love the benefits of a girls-only education. Our students can take risks intellectually and athletically and feel comfortable doing so. We want our students to have many opportunities for a balanced and active social life. Cardinal Newman, an all boys school, is right next door and students share break and lunch. The two schools jointly host two or three informal dances each year, as well as the Junior/Senior Prom. During Junior and Senior year girls and boys may attend classes on each campus.


  11. Are students required to wear a uniform?
    Ursuline has a dress code. Tan khaki pants, skirt, or shorts, UHS white or navy polo shirts are required and must be worn at all times during the full school day. Online Uniform Sales Any type of shoes can be worn. We have several “free dress” days each year when students can wear appropriate clothing of their choice.


  12. Ursuline is the only Catholic girl’s high school in Sonoma County. Are all the students Catholic?
    Many students are Catholic and many are not. Approximately 35% of our students are NOT Catholic. The Ursuline tradition is to welcome students of all faiths, and Ursuline is a very inclusive community, where girls are encouraged to explore their spirituality.


  13. Do you have Accelerated Courses?
    We offer UC/CSU approved college preparatory courses as well as Accelerated, Honors and Advanced Placement courses.


  14. Do you have a counseling department?
    Yes! We are very proud that our Counseling Department is able to offer each student personal attention. Our Counseling Department provides academic, personal, and college counseling to all students during their four years at Ursuline High School. They also work in close association with parents, administrators and teachers. Students forge a close bond with their counselors.


  15. Do you have a cafeteria or food service?
    > Ursuline has an on campus café, Café Merici, that provides freshly prepared food daily (breakfast, snack, lunch and after school) for our students. Locally grown produce and mostly organic ingredients are used to provide tasty meals and snacks for our students.


  16. Do student participate in community service?
    All Ursuline students are required to do volunteer work in the community. Students in the 9-11th grades have a minimum 25 hour service requirement. All seniors participate in a required Senior Service project in 12th grade. This Community Based Service Learning (CBSL) project challenges students to create and support positive social change in the communities where they live and beyond. The senior student chooses a social issue of interest and concern, and then proceeds to create and implement a course of action that affects a positive social change to that specific issue. This year long project is a multi-disciplinary assignment involving community service, Religious Studies, and English. Senior students then present their CBSL projects in May each year to the school and general community.


  17. What about freshman sports?
    We offer 11 sports programs with 17 competing teams including water polo and lacrosse and Ursuline has a “no freshman cut” policy. This means that any and all frosh students that want to play a sport can get on a team!
